Graphic design work for yearly inclusive sporting event
Every year Active Company Antwerp vzw hosts a sporting event in Antwerp, Belgium, The Antwerp Brilliant Games. Since 2019 I'm the graphic designer for the event, which comes with new challenges every year.
Beginning
In 2019 I first joined the organisation as a graphic designer for a big multi-sport edition. One of the projects was a T-shirt design, where all the participating sports had to be included. This resulted in a handdrawn (luckily with the help of an Apple pencil and an iPad) mandala which symbolized all the sports, like the wheel in the center representing cycling and the different balls for volleyball, tennis and squash.
Return
Due to COVID-19, the 2020 edition of the games was canceled. In 2021, the Brilliant Games returned with a Mixed Doubles tennis tournament. For this version, new icons of doubles players on the tennis court were created and introduced. With a regular tennis tournament in 2022, the branding continued with this style.
Evolution
In 2023 the logo got an update. I streamlined the diamond, while keeping it recognisable within the existing brand. That year I also introduced the secondary logo: a circular version that's more flexible and adaptable with multiple variations to use in social media applications.
In 2024 the branding evolved further. 3 sports participated, each with their own version of the logo.
The Antwerp Brilliant Games have grown into one of the most known LGBT+ sport events in Europe. The yearly tennis tournament has been completely booked in only a few hours in the past couple of years.
Increased Efficiency with clearer uniform branding over all platforms
Positive Feedback from participants of the tournament.
Growing succes of the tournament, with in 2024 a new sold out edition.
